The story that exists
Dreemworld is a story the parents always told the kids. To be exact Dreemworld is a collection of stories, no one really knew where they came from but no matter where you went they were the same.
Every generation told new ones, or shared the old ones. No matter if they were new or old, there was no author to reference. Dreemworld stories seemingly just exist.
“ I have thought a lot about the stories my parents told me. The old man on the corner. I knew the village library inside out and never found a Dreemworld story recorded”
After a tough start on his journey in the desert, Doa was lucky enough to stumble on an oasis within two days walk. It was a small puddle of water protected from the scorching heat by a large rock formation. The stone pillars rose up on all sides. The largest of the jagged stones whether by chance or nature, leaned into the others providing welcome protection from the suns rays.
If a person did not pay attention they could easy just pass it by. Fortunately Doa was not that person. Having circled the area he finally spotted a crevice he could pass through. Reaching the inside of the formation he was thankful the entrance never narrowed by much. Not even the promise of immortality would make him take such a risk.
“All is well that ends will, until you are stuck in hole that is. ” He mused as he entered the oasis. Immediately he could feel the air was not as dry as outside. Taking a deep breath, Doa then smiled. “I think I will like it here.” The place looked a lot bigger than it seemed from the outside, he figured it could easily fit five houses if you removed a boulder or two.
Taking his time to explore the nooks and crannies of the area, Doa continued thinking about the Dreemworld stories. “Mine is a story, the village is a story, this desert has stories. Oops” He pulled back his hand just in time to avoid being bitten. Stepping back quickly he then grabbed a rock next to him and watched. The snake did not seem to interested in coming out of the space. So Doa relaxed a bit and backed up more while keeping a close eye on the snake. “It probably has enough food here.”
Setting his tent up for the evening, Doa then finally made his way over to the puddle protected by the great stone as he has started calling it. “I bet you have some stories don't you great stone?” He looked up at it and waited, knowing there would be no answer, he shrugged and thought it was worth a shot thought. “You I am not so sure, maybe one day you will have a great story little puddle, or is your story still too deep for most?” This time he did not wait for an answer.
Heading back to his tent a hundred steps away he assembled all the twigs and matter he found while searching the area for a fire. He smiled as he placed the final two pieces on the heap. “These will burn for long. ” He thought to himself, feeling fortunate to find such thick pieces of wood in the scarce terrain.
As the sky turned golden, bring night , Doa finished his food and prepared his tent for another cold evening in the desert. At least this time he had something to eat unlike his first evening which he dearly did not wish to repeat. He paid extra attention to closing the tent, just because the snake has not bothered him yet does not mean it won't .
Doa lay in the dark for a while , until he realised he was thinking something but then promptly forgot what he was thinking. Then his mind looped the phrase “promptly forgot” many times until he forgot he was looping the phrase.
Then he though about the stories again, and he thought, “Everyone has a story, some are even in many others stories, and maybe this worlds is a library and we all have our chapter. Some are even whole books. ” He turned to his side and pulled his pelt blanket up further, the oasis didn't feel as cold as the open desert at least so he did it purely for the comfort.
“Some are only a few lines, but need the blank space on the page to let the reader breathe.” He kept musing. “She held my pinkie with her tiny pink hand, then closed her sparkling brown eyes. A moment passed and she smiled her final everlasting smile.”
He thought of an example.
Doa kept thinking about the Dreemworld stories, he does not know where they come from but he had a feelings. As sleep whispered to him, he whispered back to the world. “I know your secret. I will become a Dreemworld story too. ”
